My scientific focus lies on intraocular lenses and cataract surgery, for this purpose I am directing a research group (Vienna IOL Study Group).

My interests are:
• New technologies in cataract surgery (such as femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, FLACS)
• Further development of intraocular lenses (IOLs):
o Multifocal and EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) intraocular lenses
o Correction of presbyopia
o Toric intraocular lenses for astigmatism correction
• Posterior capsule opacification prophylaxis
• Improvement of preoperative biometry
• accommodation
• myopia

Teaching activities:

• Ongoing national and international lectures
• Training of young eye surgeons and organization of surgical courses
• since 2006 lectures and seminars at the Medical University Vienna as part of the curriculum
• Supervisor of the PhD program N790 – Clinical Neurosciences (CLINS)
• Organization and lecture of thesis seminars and journal clubs
• Supervision of diploma and doctoral students
• Participation in the creation of the “e-i, Electronic Eye” learning program (interactive online textbook on ophthalmology)
