Eyelid surgeries are performed by myself in our private operating room under local anesthesia. This makes it a largely painless and stress-free procedure for you. The operating room is fully equipped according to the latest technical requirements and this means maximum comfort for you.

RECONSTRUCTIVE LID SURGERY

Causes for reconstructive eyelid surgery can be congenital or acquired malpositions of the upper and lower eyelids, such as inward rotation (entropion) or outward rotation (ectropion) of the upper and lower eyelids and drooping of the upper eyelid (ptosis). Also injuries, inflammation or benign tumors such as stye (chalazion) or warts on the eyelid margin and malignant tumors (especially basal cell carcinoma) can also cause problems with the eyelid.

AESTHETIC LID SURGERY

Hooded eyelids (dermatochalasis) and bags under the eyes are the most common reasons for aesthetic eyelid surgery. With hooded eyelids, the eye appears smaller and tired. Excess skin on the upper eyelid partially covers the eyelashes and thus leads to a restriction of the field of vision upwards and to the side. The fatty tissue can protrude thus leading to swelling in the area of the upper eyelids. Eye bags on the lower eyelid are caused by prolapse of fatty tissue and sagging of the lower eyelid skin. This leads tooptical aging and a tired appearance.

The surgical technique depends on various factors (lid shape, skin thickness and skin condition, edema or fat prolapse), which are included in the individual surgical planning. Basically, all eyelid surgeries are performed under local anesthesia. For this purpose, an anesthetic is injected under the skin. You can feel the stitch and maybe a slight pressure. During surgery you will feel the touch, but no pain. Depending on the procedure, the surgery lasts between 15 and 60 minutes. After the operation, the wound is treated with adhesive bandages.

  • Due to the very good blood supply of the eyelid area, bruising and swelling can occur postoperatively. These can last a few days to weeks and usually disappear on their own.
  • Cooling the eyelid area within the first 24 hours (e.g. with cold compresses/cool packs) is often very helpful.
  • Pain after the eyelid operation is hardly to be expected and can be easily treated with painkillers if necessary.
  • Infections and secondary bleedings are very rare. In these cases, I advise you to come immediately for a check-up so that these complications remain largely harmless.
  • Postoperative visits and suture removal (depending on the procedure) are arranged individually.
