My scientific focus lies on intraocular lenses and cataract surgery, for this purpose I am directing a research group (Vienna IOL Study Group).

My interests are:

  • New technologies in cataract surgery (such as femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, FLACS)
  • Further development of intraocular lenses (IOLs):
Multifocal and EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) intraocular lenses
    Correction of presbyopia
Toric intraocular lenses for astigmatism correction
  • Posterior capsule opacification prophylaxis
  • Improvement of preoperative biometry
  • accommodation
  • The eyelength of myopic people is too long in relation to the refractive power of the cornea and lens. This means that rays of light that enter the eye from distanced are bundled in front of the retina and therefore the image appears blurred. In contrast, the eye sees better at near.
